Healthy Soil, Healthy Humans, Healthy Planet!
The Green Room presents the latest in the Merwin Conservancy Series: a screening of the film, “Symphony of the Soil” and Q&A with filmmaker Deborah Koons Garcia.
“Unfolding with gentle joy and an unexpected beauty, this ode to the miracle of the Earth’s topmost layer gives us a new found respect for the ground beneath our feet.”(The New York Times)
Drawing from cutting edge science and ancient wisdom, Symphony of the Soil is an exploration of the miraculous substance soil and the elaborate relationships between soil, water, the atmosphere, plants and animals.
Filmed on four continents, featuring esteemed scientists, working farmers and ranchers, the film examines soil science, our human relationship with soil, and the use and misuse of soil in agriculture, deforestation and development.
Importantly, Symphony of the Soil is a compelling look at the possibilities of healthy soil creating healthy plants creating healthy humans living on a healthy planet.
Deborah Koons Garcia’s first documentary film, “The Future of Food” (2004) was the canary in the coalmine, examining corporate domination of our food supply and the first major film to cover genetic engineering. Her second film, “Symphony of the Soil”, has won numerous awards and screened at universities, festivals and venues around the world.
In 2013, Koons Garcia received the John de Graaf Environmental Filmmaking Award. The Green Room is generously sponsored by FIM Group; all ticket sales benefit The Merwin Conservancy.
