Select The Best – Hilo Vegetarian Restaurants
Nourish The Body
Looking for a delicious and nutritious meal in Hilo, we have a few suggestions. Here you will find both Hilo vegetarian restaurants & our choice of Hilo farm to fork style restaurants, you know the ones that really support local farmers.
When you visit a restaurant inquire about the origins of the food you are ordering. If the restaurant has a model that includes supporting local farmers a compliment & vote of support from you goes a long way. It makes them feel stronger about supporting the local farmers. That compliment you make works its way back to the farmer and then the farmer returns that compliment to the beautiful food which makes its way back to you.
You win, they win, we all win when we go local.

Hilo Bay Cafe started in 2003 by a small group of dedicated food lovers. For 10 years, the 70-seat restaurant flourished against odds in a small central Hilo strip mall location. From the start, it was well loved by locals and visitors alike, serving seasonal and organic food and wines with a fun and comfortable “come as you are” attitude.
True to its name, Hilo Bay Cafe moved to a bigger, brighter location on the shores of beautiful Hilo Bay in October 2013. Here familiar faces and new fans mingle. Diners enjoy contemporary, locally inspired dishes, artisan sushi, and they still love the wine, but the craft beer and cocktails fly out the door into the hands of happy customers sitting on the lanai.

The origins of Café Pesto lay in the quaint harbor town of Kawaihae where a small take-out pizzeria that began in 1988 quickly evolved into an award winning dining establishment on the resort coast of South Kohala.
Our inception coincided with the birth of Hawaii Regional Cuisine with which we became notably associated. Despite growing world-class competition on the South Kohala coast, we continue to be the benchmark for consistency, quality and innovation.
Following this growth and success we sought out a more locally based market for our concept in the lush surroundings of Hilo, a city where the best of old Hawaii remained in an era otherwise forgotten.
Here, turn of the century buildings – survivors of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, devastating tsunamis and economic depressions – have stood poised against the ravages of time. These timeless structures are now the foundation of what has become the renaissance of downtown Hilo.
On July 10, 1992 the newly restored S. Hata building, originally constructed in 1912 by the Hata family and known as the Grande Dame of Hilo, became the new home of Cafe Pesto, Hilo Bay. With its rattan chairs, tall ceilings, brass detailed exhibition kitchen and ohia wood-fired pizza oven, diners are now able to drift back in time awakened to the present only by the colorful and provocative meal presentations
