Women of Achievement from Judy Chicago’s “The Dinner Party”

March 24, 2015 @ 6:00 pm

In celebration of Women's History Month, retired college professor Carol Hogard will present a lecture on artist Judy Chicago's The Dinner Party. This monumental work of art honoring women of outstanding achievement consists of a triangular table of three wings featuring 13 outstanding women. Emanating from the table are the names of 999 women of achievement written in gold on the tile floor. The Dinner Party is now housed in the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art in the Brooklyn Museum. The presentation will include a short clip from Judy Chicago's website http://www.throughtheflower.org as well as more detailed information on the floor tiles emanating from the plates of Sojourner Truth and Ethel Smyth. The lecture will also include a description of the embroidery runners and plates honoring Sappho and Theodora. A question and answer session will follow the presentation. Program is suitable for ages 18 and older.

Carol Hogard is a retired from the Minneapolis Community and Technical College. She was part of the team that created the first women's studies curriculum in a community college in the upper Midwest.
