Please join us for a presentation by Scientist Dr. Lutcavage
about satellite tracking big tunas and discovering migration routes and lifestyle of yellowfin tuna (ahi) and Atlantic bluefin with fishermen science partners.
Dr. Molly Lutcavage is an oceanographer, the founder/director of the Large Pelagics Research Center http://www.Tunalab.org TUNA2OCEANS (Kauai), research professor at UMass, Boston, and scientist with the Pacific Islands fisheries Group http://www.FishToday.org. Her team conducts studies on the ocean migrations and life histories of tunas, billfish and sea turtles. Lutcavage’s research is known for its productive partnerships with fishermen, and international collaborations. Her long term study of Atlantic Bluefin tuna and pioneering use of electronic tags resulted in new understanding of Bluefin migration routes and ecology. With PIFG, Molly hopes to support and expand local fishermen research partnerships to uncover the secrets of Hawaii’s tunas and billfish. She splits her home between Kauai and “Wicked Tuna’s” home port of Gloucester, MA.
