Thursday, March 2nd 2017 – 9:00am-12:30pm ~How to Raise Happy Healthy Chickens (and other animals), No Matter Where You Live and How Much Land You Have
Description: This talk explores the various models of healthy and sustainable small-scale animal husbandry, focusing on chicken set-up and care essentials. Covers the ins and outs of Raising Chickens for Eggs or Meat, Composting with Animal Manures, and Animal Set ups for all different environments and living situations. We will discuss Chicken houses/coop design, fencing options, and the daily care requirements for managing different types of chickens. Animals are our friends and allies. They have enormous wisdom and knowledge to impart on us, if only we stop and listen. Learn how natural ecosystems work and what relationships exist between plants and animals and between different types of animals. How do we draw out these natural patterns and put them into use in our homestead and small farm system design. Sure to be a winner! Cluck!
Facilitator Bio: SHAD QUDSI – Co-founder of Atitlan Organics
Shad has 15 years experience in organic and commercial gardening and farming. He is certified in Permaculture Design and has over 7 years experience in holistic site development, homesteading, and farming. Shad originally set out to study mathematics and work in big business, but long ago had a change of heart. In 2010, he and his wife founded Atitlan Organics, a small-scale, for-profit, highly-diversified, direct-to-consumer, downright ninja farm. He can now be found dancing in his garden in Tzununa, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. Aside from all of this, Shad is an enthusiastic teacher who truly believes in the work he is doing. Human resiliency cannot be erased from the landscape and now, it is coming back with a gentle loving caress. http://www.atitlanorganics.com
