Beekeeping in Hawai’i: What makes our bees unique and how we can get started caring for them ourselves, with Ron Hanson.
Learn about the origin, the challenges and the ongoing growth of honeybees on the Big Island. Discover how you can make a difference, what you need to get started in beekeeping, what different types of hives are available, or what to grow to assist them along.
Bio: Ron Hanson is an intermittent lifelong passionate beekeeper, starting in Michigan and learning along the way in North Carolina, Turkey and Grenada. He has kept bees locally since 2003 and currently owns/operates a designated Certified Naturally Grown apiary. The Honey Bee Company sells both retail (‘Just Honey’) and wholesale honey statewide and to the Mainland. He is a teacher, consultant and has enabled fledgling beekeepers for many years.

Each class starts promptly with a lecture and Q&A before hands-on farm learning ~ Come prepared with notepad and writing utensil, closed toed shoes, sun hat, and gloves.
