One of the biggest names in the industry, Lawrence was born in Frankfurt, Germany, as his father was stationed there with the Air Force. After moving back to America, Lawrence discovered his passion for comedy as he discovered its ability to make people, including his own single-parent mother, laugh and feel better. He rose to fame as the host of the famous Def Comedy Jam, after spending years working his way up doing stand-up at small comedy clubs, then Star Search and The Improv, and landing his first television sitcom role on What’s Happening Now!! Lawrence is also known for his hugely successful and true-to-life series Martin, as well as his many comedy film roles opposite big names such as Eddie Murphy, Danny DeVito and Tim Robbins.
