Kyōgen, a traditional Japanese comic form, will be performed by the University of Hawaii At Manoa’s Asian Theatre Program.
Two Great Lords (Futari Daimyō ), a play from The Traditional repertory, brings the spirit of kyōgen to life as a passerby is commandeered by great lords out traveling, to carry their sword. In this delightful “weak overcoming the strong” parable, the passerby turns the tables on them, relieving them of their belongings, and yet somehow leaves them, and the audience, in laughter.
Program is sponsor by a generous donation from the Schindler family, through the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i . This is a production of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program with additional funding provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Program schedule is subject to change. Contact the library 15 days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if special accommodations are needed.
