North Kohala Public Library in Kapa'au is presenting a series of “talk story” sessions on Hawai’i’s History with North Kohala historian, Boyd D. Bond, in September and October 2016.
In the second presentation on Monday, September 12, Bond will describe “George Vancouver and his four voyages to Hawai'i ”. For the final program on Monday, October 10, Bond will discuss “Kū’ē Petitions, early Hawaiian opposition to annexation”.
Each hour long presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Boyd Bond’s knowledge of Hawai'i’s history stems from his academic studies and from a lifetime spent in Hawaii as a 6th generation descendent of early western settlers in Hawaii. Boyd was raised in Hawai'i in a sugar plantation family, living on plantations throughout the state.
Of his interest in Hawaiian history, Bond says, “I can’t ever remember a time when I wasn’t immersed in it. Many of the stories of Hawai'i’s history are also our family stories.” Bond earned a BA in Hawaiian history from the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and went on to earn a masters degree in education.
