Fossil Free Fast at Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua

January 31, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This is the beginning of a massive action across the country led by a coalition of environmental and social justice organizations, including 350.org, Indigenous Environmental Network, NAACP, Avaaz, Our Revolution, GreenFaith, Daily KOS, Sierra Club and many others. The call is being put out to start organizing everyone, everywhere, WE are the push we need.

Come join us Wed. Jan. 31 6-8pm at Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua (HCCOH) for a Big Island 350.org/Fossil Free Hui meeting and livestream Ai Pono Potluck watch party of the nation wide Fossil Free campaign launch from DC, with Senator Bernie Sanders, 350.org's Bill McKibben and many others passionate about igniting local action to tackle the climate challenge! We need to shift the thinking and grow from the ground up, the way things grow naturally, show up and get rooted with action in our community!

HAWAII WILL BE HIT HARDER THAN ANY OTHER STATE.

More and stronger hurricanes; severe damage to tourism, our economy’s largest source of income; beach loss; more disease; closed hotels and lost jobs; water shortages; dying coral reefs; damaged infrastructure; higher average temperatures; decreased trade winds; periods of drought and heavy rain with flooding; sea water mixing with drinking water; endangered fisheries; stressed native animals and plants; increased spread of invasive species; declining crop production. Lucky we live Hawaii? It’s changing – right now.

We are gathering Jan 31st at 6-8 pm at the Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua to connect Big Island 350.org/Fossil Free Hui in the North Hawaii area with a nationwide Fossil Free Launch Party livestreamed from DC that day. Ai Pono Potluck and small snacks for the watch party would be graciously accepted but not necessary, just show up and connect with the community!
The DC event will feature US Senator Bernie Sanders, 350.org co-founder Bill McKibben, Rev. Lennox Yearwood from Hip Hop Caucus, Jacqueline Patterson from the NAACP, Cherri Foytlin from BOLD Louisiana, Adriana Voss-Andreae from 350PDX, Varshini Prakash from the Sunrise Movement, Jessica Lorena Rangel from Eyes of a Dreamer, a representative from Sierra Club's Ready for 100 Campaign and a few other leaders.

The event is 1.5hrs long, and we have 30 min of discussion/talk story after.

HCCOH is generously donating the hall for use, please feel free to donate to their collection bowl if you can to help fund their awesome programs and continued use!

Meet your community who want to organize to build local power and take climate action. We will brainstorm on local action efforts to work together on to make this a reality in our community.
