“From the right to know and the duty to inquire flows the obligation to act.” -Dr. Sandra Steingraber
Hawaii is at a crossroads. On the one hand, we are global leaders in the areas of sustainable agriculture, sustainable finance, and clean energy. On the other hand, we have the world's most endangered species, we import 85% of our food, and we pay the highest energy prices in the US, most of which is powered by fossil fuel.
To move the conversation on sustainable solutions forward, Hawai‘i Center for Food Safety, Sierra Club, Sustainable Coastlines, Hawai‘i Alliance for Progressive Action, Hawai‘i SEED, Hawai‘i People’s Fund, Honua Consulting, KUPU Hawai‘i, Kanu Hawaii and North Shore O.H.A.N.A. are proud to host acclaimed ecologist and author Dr. Sandra Steingraber for a public lecture and book signing in Honolulu on Wednesday, December 16, 2015.
Heralded as “the new Rachel Carson,” Dr. Steingraber has been a tireless champion for public health, authoring acclaimed books like Raising Elijiah and Living Downstream, and leading a successful campaign to ban fracking in New York state. Dr. Steingraber weaves precise science, the public world of policy and the intimacy of everyday life to illustrate that change is possible in an age of environmental crisis.
The FREE program will begin at 6:30 PM with book signing to follow. Come early to purchase her book and get a prime seat. Free parking in lot on a first come first serve basis. We hope to see you there. #protectourkeiki #pesticidesinparadise
