Author Talk with Chris Cook

July 27, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Chris is the author of THE PROVIDENTIAL LIFE & HERITAGE OF HENRY OBOOKIAH, a new non-fiction expansion of the 200-year-old story of the Ka'ū-born young man who changed Hawai'i forever. Obookiah/ʻŌpūkahaʻia's life and death in New England led to the sending of American Protestant missionaries to Hawai'i.

Chris will talk about ʻŌpūkahaʻia's childhood years in Ninole, and his apprenticeship as a kahuna at Hikiau Heiau along the shore of Kealakekua Bay. The author will also discuss the role of the Lee family of Hilo in the 1993 return to Hawai'i of ʻŌpūkahaʻia's remains.

Program schedule is subject to change. Please contact the hosting library for more information regarding this program, or to arrange special accommodations, such as a sign language interpreter: 933-8890.
