Danny Carvalho, one of Hawaii’s youngest slack key guitar virtuosos and a 2009 Na Hoku Hanohano Award nominee, will present a free performance in celebration of Kaimuki Public Library’s 50th Anniversary.
In addition to his slack key artistry, Carvalho is known for his soulful singing of both traditional and contemporary favorites. This young and rising star has achieved many musical milestones including: the first slack key player to be featured on the nationally-syndicated program “From The Top” in 2004, two appearances on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” in 2006 and 2011, Na Hoku Hanohano Award nominee in 2009 for his CD “Somewhere” in the “Slack Key Album of the Year” category, and his music was featured in Alexander Payne’s Academy Award-winning film “The Descendants.”
The Friends of the Library of Hawaii is sponsoring this 45-minute performance which is suitable for ages 5 and older. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
Call the Library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.
