To welcome in National Poetry Month, award-winning poet and author Eric Paul Shaffer will read a selection of classic and contemporary poems that focus on the insights and surprises we find when we look at the smallest or least noticed parts of our lives.
Eric Paul Shaffer is the author of five poetry books including “Lahaina Noon,” “Living at the Monastery, Working the Kitchen,” and “Portable Planet.” More than 400 of his poems have appeared in more than 200 local and national reviews as well as many in Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Scotland, and Wales. Shaffer has received a number of local literary awards, including the 2002 Elliot Cades Award, a 2006 Ka Palapala Po'okela Book Award for Lahaina Noon, and the 2009 James M. Vaughan Award for Poetry. He teaches composition, literature, and creative writing at Honolulu Community College.
