Like many underground rappers in the Midwest, Tech N9ne specialized in bizarre hardcore rap and stood as one of the few recognized rappers based in Kansas City when he debuted in the late ‘90s. He made the major-label jump with Anghellic (2001), which JCOR released with the backing of Interscope Records. A year later his Tech N9ne’s new label, Strange Music, re-relased Anghellic, which had gone out of print in the wake of JCOR’s fallout with Interscope.
In 2012 he released the Klusterfuk EP along with the compilation E.B.A.H. & Boiling Point: K.O.D. Collection, which 2013 saw him return with Something Else, an album featuring guest shots from System of a Down’s Serj Tankian, Kendrick Lamar, and the remaining members of the Doors. A fifth collection of collaborations, titled , appeared in 2014.
Independent rap mogul Tech N9ne has announced the release of his next studio album, Special Effects, dropping worldwide on May 5, 2015. An all-star list of features and producers has yet to be disclosed, but the veteran rhymer says it will be his biggest album to date. “We’re not giving it all away just yet, but what I can say to all my Technicians who have been patiently waiting for this, get ready for your minds to be blown! We made some dreams come true on this album. You WILL NOT be disappointed. It’s a beautiful thing.”
