Sunday, March 4, 11:00am at Tenney Theatre (just on the other side of Beretania St. from SFCA). The high school winners from 12 schools statewide will be there reciting poems they have selected from a 900 poem anthology, and learned by heart. A panel of four judges will score students on their physical presence, voice and articulation, dramatic appropriateness, and evidence of understanding. The first place winner gets an all-expenses paid trip to compete in the national finals in Washington DC!
This is the 13th year that the National Endowment for the Arts has supported POL through earmarked funds to each state arts agency. In 2016, Hawaii’s winner, Nicholas Amador, came in third in the nation. In 2017, Nick again won Hawaii’s title, and came in 2nd in the nation! He is back again for the state finals this year.
