Make Your Own Probiotic-Rich Fermented Foods: Sauerkraut & Pickles with Jasmine Silverstein

Fermented foods have been a part of every ancient culture throughout history. Sauerkraut, pickles, and yogurt are a few of the many traditional live-cultured, fermented foods. These foods developed out of the need to preserve food, before refrigeration was possible. Modern food processing has inadvertently removed these whole, fermented, living foods from our diets, and replaced them with processed, refined, low-nutrient substitutes. With the rise in health issues, these probiotic-rich foods are more important than ever. Now you can learn how to make your own probiotic-rich foods at home!

Jasmine is the founder and owner of HeartBeet Catering, a whole-foods based catering company based in Hilo, HI. She offers personal chef services, retreat catering, gluten-free, vegan wedding cakes, and more. She began experimenting in the world of fermentation in 2011, shortly after being diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, a severe autoimmune condition. The benefits she has received from discovering and engaging in the world of microbes has proven to be invaluable. She hopes to inspire others to cultivate their own health by making their own ‘food medicine.’ http://heartbeetfood.com
