Traditional Polynesian Coconut Leaf Gathering Basket with Aunty Lynda Saffery
Learn about the history and traditons of coconut weaving and learn to make the coconut leaf harvest basket called Eke Ohi Launiu: a very strong double weave across bottom harvest or market basket.
Lynda Saffery received her formal training from a 1988 & 89’ State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, Apprentice and Master grant for Ulana Lauhala and a 2002 Sabbatical to Tonga to study weaving and Kapa making and design. She continues to teach traditional ways and designs of the Kupuna, and enjoys being part of the Holua culture and Ulana Makaloa revival.
