Elder Financial Abuse: The Crime of the 21st Century

Elders’ vulnerabilities and large net worth make them prime targets for financial abuse, and as a result this highly underreported crime is costing elders billions of dollars a year! The increased aging of the population, social changes and technological advances are leading to dramatic increases in this crime. Attend this presentation in the First Floor Reading Room at Hawaii State Library to learn to spot the warning signs of elder financial abuse and find out who the perpetrators are. The presenter, Karen Ho, Financial Educator for the Hawaii State Federal Credit Union, will provide details on the different ways that elders are approached and then scammed into turning over their life savings.
