As part of Kipahulu Ohana's Malama I Ke Kai program, an ‘opihi “rest area” (voluntary no take zone) has been established for three years along the shoreline adjacent to Haleakala National Park, and several times a year we survey the opihi populations to monitor the results of the rest area.
We weren't quite able to complete the surveys last weekend, so we're doing one more day and really appreciate any volunteers who can come for a few hours! The more surveyors, the faster it goes…
